When it comes to mental health issues, it does not matter how rich or poor, physically strong or weak, or white or black you are, as anyone can be inflicted with a mental disorder without much warning.
The famous singer Halsey has discovered that as well, and although many would argue that the artist with all her money should be able to buy happiness, treating mental health issues is seldom that easy.
According to an interview given by the singer, although she has not given into her condition as of yet, she finds herself at the brink of it and hence has decided to preemptively treat her mental health before things get too out of hand.
What Is A Bipolar Disorder?
As the name suggests, being bipolar or having a bipolar disorder means that one experiences manic episodes, in which one exhibits extreme forms of energy and hence is more prone to making reckless decisions. These are followed by episodes of complete lack of energy, which ultimately cause depression.
According to Halsey, she is currently experiencing manic episodes, and although she is making a conscious effort to ensure she does not act upon her reckless impulses, she still finds it scary that she has such impulses in the first place. The impulses promoted by a bipolar disorder can be as extreme as convincing one to jump off a building, so it isn’t difficult to understand why Halsey is concerned about her mental health situation.
Even if she manages to safely navigate through the manic episodes, Halsey would have another thing coming in the form of depression. Since she has been experiencing the mania for a considerable period of time now, the singer is confident that depression is not that far out, but she’s accepting of it considering it is a natural state-mandated by her ongoing mental condition.
Explaining Bipolar Disorder
In more scientific terms, a bipolar disorder brings about a shift in the mood of an individual, combined with changes in perceived energy levels that ultimately translate into reduced activity levels. This hinders the ability of the patient to perform many of the routine tasks, thereby disrupting everyday life and causing further problems.
There are four distinct categories of bipolar disorder, although Halsey has not specified which category she is suffering from at the moment. Not many people seek help when it comes to bipolar disorder, so Halsey is certainly taking exceptional measures when it comes to the stability of her mental health.
Those who suffer from bipolar disorder can continue living normally without treating their condition, albeit they may pose a threat to both themselves and those around them.
While medication is often prescribed to contain and eventually normalize the mood swings, getting admission into a medical facility ensures greater safety as the impact of medication is not always foreseeable and can be dangerous.
Simultaneously, patients of bipolar should also seek psychotherapy as a way to monitor any changes in the mood to assess the effectiveness of medication being taken.
