You may consider yourself lucky if you have a successful career, but you are truly blessed if you also have a loving family that supports you every step of the way. Serena Williams, the tennis superstar, has a beautiful family with a husband who loves her very much.
However, even though we are huge fans of the tennis player and know a lot about her, her husband still remains very much an enigma. Well, not anymore.
That man you see in the audience, cheering on Serena in almost every one of her matches with great zeal, is Alexis Ohanian, who is also one of the founders of the hit internet website Reddit. The couple shares a daughter as well, and when Serena is playing, it is Alexis who makes sure that their daughter is well taken care of so that his wife can give her level best in the game.
Their First Meeting
The first time both Serena and Alexis had met was at the Cavalieri Hotel in the gorgeous city of Rome, back in the year 2015. It can easily be said that fate brought the two of them together as they were staying there for completely different reasons, Serena because she had the Italian Open, and Alexis because he was speaking at a conference.
Coincidentally, while Serena was already sitting at a table next to the hotel’s pool, Alexis decided to sit at the table right next to hers. According to Serena, she did not appreciate the fact that, even though there were other empty tables, Alexis had decided to use one in such close proximity to her own table, and hence she asked him to move, stating she needed that table as well.
Instead of moving, Alexis cracked a joke in response, and Serena liked it so much that she asked him to join her. This led to an invite to her next match, which eventually led to a date, and so on.
After only a year of having known each other, a spark had formed between Alexis and Serena which led the former to propose marriage. Serena happily accepted the proposal and the two were officially engaged as of December 2016. Apparently, Alexis took his now-wife to Cavalieri Hotel, the same place where they had first met, and proposed in the traditional manner.
Co-Founder of Reddit
All of us know that Serena is one of the most successful tennis players of our time, and justifiably she has a total of $180 million to her name which has come from her multiple championship awards as well as high-profile sponsorships from top brands around the world. But her husband is also a millionaire, thanks to the success of Reddit.
According to reports, Alexis and his business co-founder, Steve Huffman, sold Reddit for $10 million back in 2006. The company is now worth around $3 billion, and we bet Alexis somewhat regrets his decision to sell. However, he is still worth around $9 million, thanks to another venture he started by the name of Initialized Capital.
