Nothing gains more attention to a diet plan than the news that a particular celebrity is following it. While most diet plans revolve around reaching a certain weight goal, there are some which are absolutely necessary for people to follow.
One group which absolutely needs a very specific diet plan is those who have trouble digesting gluten, and luckily there are celebrities who have trouble digesting it as well.
For example, Zoey Deschanel, who stars on the hit TV show called New Girl, suffers from coeliac disease, Victoria Beckham has a sensitivity to digesting gluten, Chelsea Clinton is simply allergic to anything containing gluten, and Miley Cyrus is simply creating awareness that people should generally avoid gluten consumption altogether.
More Attention on Coeliac Disease
All this talk around the harms of consuming gluten has helped coeliac disease gain a lot of much-needed attention because people with the disease can have a resistance to gluten without knowing about it for years.
This means that many people keep suffering from symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, and anemia, and when they seek treatment, the treat other conditions like IBS, which would show similar symptoms, without treating the root cause, gluten.
Since celebrities have started talking about living a gluten-free lifestyle due to their own personal issues with gluten, people have also started paying more attention to their own reaction to gluten and whether they should be consuming it at all, and this has caused a surge in demand for gluten-free food items and recipes.
And, naturally, a lot of easy solutions have surfaced, allowing people to consume a diet that completely eliminates gluten without making a lot of changes to their current lifestyle.
For example, Ann Perkins, who is an expert in the field because she suffers from the coeliac disease herself, has developed an entire collection of products which deliver a gluten-free option to customers.
Hard to Diagnose
According to Perkins, it took a very long time for her to become diagnosed with the condition as symptoms can very easily be confused for other conditions.
It was only after she consulted a specialist that the disease was finally diagnosed and, according to her, she may have had the disease for around 20 years without even knowing it.
Apparently, it can take an average case of coeliac disease around 13 years to be diagnosed because of the confusion surrounding the symptoms.
Some people may not even show any symptom, in which case family history needs to be checked and a blood test needs to be sought to confirm the existence of the disease.
Going Out
Having resistance to gluten does not mean you should avoid going out altogether. Many restaurants now offer gluten-free choices, however, you should still confirm whether a restaurant knows exactly what you are trying to avoid.
Basically, a food contains gluten if it is made from, completely or partially, with wheat, rye, and also barley. Sometimes the existence of these substances may not be too obvious, in which case it is good to check sauces as well as battered food for their involvement.
