There are many important causes to fight for in this world, but only those which are supported by famous people like Prince William get the necessary recognition.
Although the Prince has supported and continues to support many humanitarian causes around the world (especially in the UK) as part of his official duties as the Duke of Cambridge, this time he has lent support to one focusing on mental health, which, as you may probably know, has become globally recognized as a pressing issue for all civilized societies on this planet.
According to reports, the Prince has played an important role in the launch of a new campaign called Heads Up, surrounding the topic of mental health, having collaborated with two organizations, one being a charity called Heads Together, and the second one being the Football Association.
What is Heads Up?
Just like most campaigns aim to improve the mental health of society, the Heads Up campaign is also focused on encouraging the masses to increase their awareness about their personal mental health.
The campaign is designed to promote the concept of seeking help for any mental health issue which you may have, either after having received a formal diagnosis or simply through self-assessment. It also talks about seeking treatment for any physical health issues, although not with nearly as much emphasis.
One of the major reasons why people don’t opt to seek treatment for any possible issues with their mental health is because there is a strong social stigma attached with those who are diagnosed with a mental ailment.
The Heads Up campaign aims to mitigate this stigma as well by having voices like Prince William speak openly about mental health and also encourage people to seek help.
Officially Promoted
The official Twitter handle of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge called KensingtonRoyal made the official announcement on the social media platform, stating that the Duke had officially launched the campaign in August.
This announcement also came with a brief excerpt of the Prince’s speech, which said that out mental health needed to become a top healthcare priority for us and that we needed to stay open and willing to help anyone around us in need of help to cope with their mental health issues.
The initiative called Heads Together had been launched back in 2016, however, just like many other social causes, it struggled to garner as much attention as was needed to make a big social difference. According to the Duke, apparently many famous people did not want to become involved with it simply because it talked about the issue of mental health, and they did not want to be associated with it.
But now the conversation surrounding mental health has evolved dramatically, even though not much time has passed since 2016. Now, people around the world have become more aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy mind, and that is why campaigns like Heads Up are bound to gain a lot of traction even if Prince William is the only celebrity supporting it.
