It’s one thing to lose weight because you want to look or feel a certain way, but it’s a completely crushing experience when you are told to lose those extra pounds because otherwise, you are not good enough to perform a certain job. That is exactly what Teddi Mellencamp went through when she was just 17 years of age, and according to her, it was naturally a very embarrassing experience.
We have been entertained by and fallen in love with Mellencamp on the show Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and since she looked absolutely perfect on the show, we always assumed that she has had the picture-perfect life.
But, this has not always been the case. Mellencamp has come forward and spoken about the difficult time she underwent during her late-teens. Although the reality star has always struggled with maintaining the desired weight, this is one experience that she will probably never forget.
A Budding Actress
During her late teenage years, Mellencamp had been working hard to make a name for herself in the entertainment world. Having made the necessary move to the city of Los Angeles in California, Mellencamp had started working for the mailroom with the CAA, as well as becoming a hostess, both jobs which she performed during the breaks she received from her acting roles.
Then, finally, she got in touch with someone who agreed to manage her acting career, lining her up with appropriate acting jobs.
Mellencamp had to audition for many roles before she finally landed one in a TV show pilot. As a young woman, Mellencamp naturally thought she had paid her dues and now it was time for her to become a big star, according to an Instagram post which she made quite recently with a photo of herself from the late-90s. The caption went on to read that her life did change with this job but in a very unexpected way.
You Must Lose Weight
The call-back which Mellencamp had received for the role was positive about her acting skills, however, it came with one condition: she must lose around 20 pounds to fit the part. This obviously caused Mellencamp a lot of frustration, heartbreak, anger, and embarrassment. But she did not let this bring her down. Instead, she turned this feedback into a tool that enabled her to reap positive results.
Although, for the most part of her 20s and even some of her 30s, Mellencamp did not have much control over the weight she gained, after which she had to opt for a diet that composed mostly of Dr. Pepper combined with string cheese that allowed her to quickly drop a few pounds.
But then, when she gave birth to Cruz, her now five years old son, Mellencamp saw that she had gone over the 200 pounds threshold, one she had never hit before, which finally prompted her to take control of her weight. Now she has taken the initiative to lose weight in a healthy way, according to an Instagram post she recently made announcing to the world that she was now on a weight loss journey.
