The teenage is a very confusing part of life, mostly because we experience both physical as well as mental changes of a drastic nature. In the case of Jameela Jamil, the teenage years were extremely bothersome, as she had developed both anorexia as well as body dysmorphia when she was only 14 years of age.
Apparently, she started suffering from these conditions after her weight had been disclosed in front of all the students in her class as part of a class project.
Unfortunately, she could not cope well with this episode as she had only a limited group of people who she could turn to for emotional support.
Hence, she became a very lonely individual, and her solitude further fueled the eating disorder which she had already adopted, making it worse with each passing day.
Very Unhappy
According to Jameela, she was not feeling happy at all because of the way she felt about herself, especially her appearance, and so she harbored an eating disorder which was obviously not a healthy choice. She was operating under very little supervision, with little to no attention being given by anyone to her physical and mental health.
She wasn’t able to approach anyone with her mental health problems as well, because she was not as close with anyone at that point in time.
Taking A Stand
Although her teenage years are far behind her now that Jameela is 33 years of age, she has decided to help the teenagers of today who are facing similar challenges that she faced at that age by grouping up with the app called Bumble BFF.
As many of you may have guessed by the name, Bumble BFF is exactly like its dating counterpart named simply as Bumble, with the fundamental difference being that users on this platform are looking to make new friends rather than finding their significant others.
According to an interview which Jameela gave, she did not have access to a similar platform while she was a teenager, however, she wishes that she did because it would have made her teenage much easier as she would have been able to find like-minded individuals who were also having trouble making friends in the offline world.
She also accepted the fact that her personality could be categorized as a socially awkward one, however, its impact could have been mitigated had she been afforded some help, like the abovementioned app, as she wouldn’t have felt as lonely anymore.
Now, Jameela is on a mission to remove the stigma surrounding the concept of loneliness by drawing attention to the fact that everyone feels lonely at some points in their life.
As for Jameela herself, she finally broke through her issues by stepping out of her comfort zone and approaching people first with the prospect of becoming friends. And through this process, she has been able to make many good friends who are now offering her consistent support, which is absolutely necessary for a Hollywood star of her stature.
