While there are many celebrities that hail Keto Diet as a miracle worker, there are also a lot who slammed the eating program. But there is arguably no one bigger of a critic than Jillian Michaels, who sees the diet as a bad guy.
There is no doubt that the diet has never been this popular, with some actually turning it into their lifestyle. With it gaining more and more fans, the trainer said she is not backing down and remains firm in her stance.
What is Keto Diet?
Before we delve deeper into why the celeb is sounding off against the diet, let’s first understand the process. The Ketogenic Diet involves high fat intake and drastically reducing carbs – this results in your body going under the ketosis state and then resorting to the fat for energy.
To put it simply, the diet forces your body to burn ketones which are produced by the liver from stored fat instead of using the sugar from carbohydrates.
Against the Keto Diet
According to Harvard University, the Keto Diet is not one to try out of curiosity as the process for your liver to make ketones is not that simple.
This is because one deprives carb intake, only less than 20 to 50 grams per day, and that too much protein can impact ketosis. The institution also said that there are a lot of risks that come with it, including constipation, kidney and liver problems, mood swings, and nutrient deficiency.
As for Jillian, she has been a staunch critic of the Keto Diet since time immemorial but she is nowhere near backing out from her beliefs.
In April, she reiterated her stance and said that people can criticize her for all they want but that science already explained that it is bad for one’s health. And although it could lead to weight loss, “The Biggest Loser” trainer said the disadvantages greatly outweigh the advantages.
Citing her three decades of training a lot of people, Jillian said you can lose weight without having to enter ketosis, which she said is a medical emergency. This is because a ketotic body means the cells won’t function properly, the fit star explained.
Standing Firm
Because of her hard-hitting statements against the Keto Diet, the 45-year-old has continuously received backlash from the public and other personalities as well. Early this year, talk show host Andy Cohen slammed Jillian after her statements on the diet, even saying she was a “bad idea.”
It is worth noting that the man had a long-running feud with the trainer and she said that he aired the statement just to piss her off. Al Roker, meanwhile, also echoed the same sentiment and blasted Jillian for criticizing the Keto Diet.
