The life expectancy of Americans has dropped yet again for the second consecutive time based on the recent report and one of the main reasons why is the fact that more and more people are being diagnosed with cancer.
It is described to the one of the leading cause of death not just in the United States, but all over the world, one reason is that scientists still haven’t found a cure, but people continue to live unhealthy lifestyle despite the threat.
In fact, a recent study found that people who consume ultra-processed food such as chicken nuggets, bacon, and even mass-produced bread, are most likely to have cancer the more they eat it.
What Are Ultra-Processed Foods?
Experts actually describe this as the foods that are trying so hard to become real food. Cereals that you simply love to give your children every morning?
Well, maybe it’s best to make time and give them a more nutritious breakfast, especially after you read this. Bacon, cereals, chicken nuggets and the sodas that are full of sugar and other chemicals that contains so many calories, are just some of the foods that are proven to be causing cancer.
Some people love fast food since it is so fast that you can have it on the go, just like vending machines. Unfortunately, almost every food that can be stored in a vending machine including some snacks, are somewhat can be considered as ultra-processed foods.
These type of food can be stored longer since it contains different chemicals in it. It is very difficult for a normal person without any knowledge when it comes to food, be able to identify which are the ultra-processed foods, however, there is only one thing to do to be safe and if you really want to make sure you consume healthy foods, and that is buying your own fresh ingredients to make healthy meals and snacks.
It is simple as that, you are not just giving your body the kind of fuel that it needs, you are also avoiding the risks of cancer and other diseases that you can get from eating unhealthy.
Cancer Risks of Ultra-Processed Foods
Researchers from the University Sorbonne France found that people who consumed ultra-processed foods are most likely to have cancer. They have gathered medical records of 100,000 and examined the eating habits to register the usual consumption of 3,000 various food items.
The ultra-processed foods that these people usually eat contain additives, flavorings and a lot of preservatives, and the more people eat these, the more unhealthy they get.
The researchers have published this study in the British Medical Journal just last week and they have found that the people they have gotten medical records from are more likely to be at risk of cancer by 12 percent since it shows on their diet how much they consume ultra-processed foods. Those who don’t are less likely to have cancer.
However, according to the World Health Organization, people shouldn’t exactly panic from it, this is because a person’s diet will always affect the risk of cancer, those who choose to live a healthy lifestyle are not guaranteed to not have any cancer at all, it just means that those who choose not to eat healthily are more of at risk.
Even the World Cancer Research Fund International Agency for Research on Cancer said that those who are overweight are the ones who are most likely to be at risk, next are those who smoke.
Linda Bauld, who is a cancer research expert from Great Britain even said that processed foods are not causing cancer to build up in the body, but it is the amount that is making it worse. It is a fact that processed foods are not healthy, but it always comes down to how often does a person consume it.
Same goes for people who love to eat red meat, fruits and vegetables. Meat is a good source of protein but it always has to be balanced out.
We can all prevent cancer if we choose to maintain a balanced diet. Processed foods should be avoided indeed but it is not bad to cheat and indulge once in a while, just make sure to eat healthier at most that would come with regular exercise and proper sleeping pattern.
